New Features and Recent Developments

Strengthened Security for Internet and Mobile Banking

To enhance your online security and provide a better customer experience, with effect from 16th July, 2018 (the Effective Date), the following changes will be made to Cyberbanking – Internet and Mobile Banking:

1. Mobile Banking Login

Your existing Mobile Banking user ID and password will become invalid, and you will be required to use your Cyberbanking account number/Credit Card account number/username and personal identification number (PIN) to log in to Mobile Banking1. If you do not have a Cyberbanking – Internet PIN, you can simply set a new Cyberbanking PIN2 for both Internet and Mobile Banking when you first log in to Mobile Banking from the Effective Date onwards.

1 Since your existing Mobile Banking User ID and password will become invalid, if you are using the BEA App Biometric Authentication Service (including Touch ID/Face ID) you will need to re-register with your Cyberbanking account number/Credit Card account number/username and PIN for security reasons.
2 You have to enter your existing Mobile Banking user ID and password before setting a new PIN. The Bank will authenticate your instruction by sending a one-time password by SMS to your mobile phone number that is already on record with the Bank. To register or update your mobile phone number, please visit any of our branches.

2. Email Notifications

You will receive an email notification at your registered email address for Cyberbanking when performing any of the activities below through the internet or mobile banking channels of Cyberbanking. If you have not registered your email address with the Bank, you will be required to provide an email address for receiving notifications when you perform any of the following activities through our Cyberbanking – Internet or Mobile Banking from the Effective Date onwards:

  • Log in to investment services3
  • Perform investment transactions
  • Reset your password
  • Change your account information (e.g. email address, correspondence address, username, etc.)
3 Investment services include stocks, unit trusts (except the constituent funds of MPF/ORSO schemes), linked deposit-related services, eIPOs, and FX/Precious Metal Margin Trading services.

How to update your contact information?

To register or update your email address for Cyberbanking, you can simply log in to Cyberbanking and select “Settings” > “Contact Information” > “Email Type”. Then, click on “Edit” and follow the instructions to set your new email address.

To register or update your mobile phone number and email address for stock trading, please visit any of our branches.


Two-factor Authentication

To enhance the protection of your investment accounts, with effect from 23rd April, 2018 (the Effective Date)*, you will be required to activate and use an SMS-based one-time password (OTP) as a two-factor authentication security measure to access our Online Investment Services#.

For Cyberbanking customer, you can activate the OTP service by following the steps below:
1. Go to our Cyberbanking website and log in to your account
2. Click “Settings” in the top left hand corner of the main page > “Two-factor Authentication” > “One-time password (via SMS)”
3. Follow the instructions to register your mobile phone number to receive OTPs

For Corporate Cyberbanking customer, you can activate the OTP service by logging in to Corporate Cyberbanking and following the steps below to register a mobile phone number for each designated signer of investment transactions. The designated signers will receive an OTP every time they access Online Investment Services:
1. System administrator logs in to Corporate Cyberbanking and enters/edits the mobile phone number for each designated signer through the “User Maintenance” function.
2. If dual administration is required, a second system administrator needs to log in to approve the changes above.
3. Each signer should log in to Corporate Cyberbanking and confirm his/her mobile phone number by entering his/her signer PIN.
4. A confirmation SMS will be sent to each of the signer’s mobile phone number.

* Please be reminded that on or after the Effective Date, it will not be possible to access Online Investment Services without having activated the OTP service.
