Programme Structure

Through the two-year Management Trainee ("MT") Programme, BEA identifies and grooms its future leaders. Given the Bank's international network and strong presence in Mainland China, trainees need to gain not only in-depth knowledge of the core banking functions, but also exposure to the China market and international banking. Trainees who have demonstrated strong potential and met management benchmarks will be advanced to executive positions upon completion of the Programme.

Talented trainees are transformed into the Bank's future leaders through the following development model:

Organisational Engagement
  • Trainees are given ample exposure and opportunities to get involved in various corporate events and CSR projects. In engaging in these activities, trainees go through a valuable process of discovery to fully understand BEA's mission, culture, direction and organisational dynamics. Moreover, they learn to collaborate with others and practice influencing skills and leadership.
Career Orientation Mapping
  • A career orientation review will be conducted by the end of the first year of the MT Programme to match trainees' strengths with corporate manning needs.
  • By assessing trainees' aptitude, capabilities and potentials, this review serves as a basis for planning appropriate job attachments for individual trainees in the second year of the MT Programme, which paves the way for future job placement.f
Continuous Career Planning and Monitoring
  • Career development does not stop at graduation from the MT Programme.
  • Performance and potential of the graduated trainees are continuously monitored, and talented trainees will receive career planning assistance to help them develop into well-rounded bankers.
Training and Professional Development
  • Trainees are provided with broad exposure to the Bank, its products and services, and the banking industry as a whole. In addition, they are given numerous opportunities to develop the soft skills that every successful banker needs.
  • Commitment to continuous professional and personal development is essential for trainees to succeed on a fast career track. Trainees are required to attain professional licences and qualifications to further develop their professionalism.
On-the-job Development
  • During the first year, trainees will receive intensive experience in BEA's core functional units such as personal banking, corporate banking, operations support, treasury, risk management, China business, etc. through short-term job attachments.
  • In the second year, each trainee will be assigned to one department to take on in-depth work challenges.
Coaching and Mentoring
  • Members of the Bank's Management or Senior Managers are assigned as the trainees' coaches or mentors to assist their integration into the corporate culture and to nurture personal growth by sharing experience, providing guidance and showing support and encouragement.
Project Learning
  • To further develop their capabilities in research and analysis, problem solving, and decision making, trainees are required to work on a project and deliver a presentation to a Management Panel before the end of the two-year programme.
  • Trainees may also be engaged in other work-related projects as needed.
