Important notices related to IBOR reform, and security & fraud issues

  • Starting from 28th January 2024, all SMS messages sent by The Bank of East Asia, Limited (“BEA”) will use “Registered Sender IDs” with the prefix “#” to assist the public in verifying the identities of SMS senders. The "Registered SMS Sender IDs" of BEA includes #BEAHK, #BEA_HK, and #BEA-HK. The SMS Sender Registration Scheme does not apply to: (1) SMS messages where customers are expected to reply to the sender via phone numbers, nor (2) local subscribers of Single-Card-Multiple-Numbers/One-Card-Two-Numbers mobile service provided by non-Hong Kong operators.   • Beware of suspicious intermediaries -- The Bank of East Asia, Limited ("BEA" or the "Bank") would like to notify all customers that certain fraudulent messages have been circulating in WeChat groups, stating that Mainland customers can remotely open Hong Kong BEA accounts through intermediaries. The Bank would like to stress that it has no affiliation whatsoever with these message groups and the websites mentioned in the groups. The Bank would also like to stress that it has not designated any intermediaries on the Mainland to open Hong Kong BEA accounts for customers. Customers who are suspicious about the identity of anyone who claims to promote products or services on behalf of the Bank or our wholly-owned subsidiary, The Bank of East Asia (China), Limited ("BEA China") should call the Bank’s Customer Service Hotline at (852) 2211 1333 or BEA China at (86) 95382 for verification.
  • Beware of suspicious intermediaries -- The Bank of East Asia, Limited (“BEA” or “the Bank”) would like to advise customers that if they are suspicious about the identity of any intermediary who promotes products or services of the Bank, they should verify with BEA by calling the Bank’s Customer Service Hotline on (852) 2211 1333.

  • BEA would like to notify the general public that certain fraudulent messages have been circulating through e-mail, stating that COVID-19 vaccines can be delivered once payments are made. The Bank has no affiliation whatsoever with such messages. If customers have conducted any financial transactions as instructed in these suspicious communications, they should immediately report the case to the Police for investigation.
